Flag Football Continues Impressive Run

The VC flag football team won its 10th straight game Wednesday by a 46-6 count against Oxnard. Honest Watson turned in a dynamic performance catching two touchdown passes, grabbing a pair of interceptions and returning a punt for a touchdown to lead VC (12-2). Ava Ortman had four touchdown passes and Sienna Angell recorded a pick-6 in the game. Wednesdays victory was the Pirates' eighth straight by at least a 20-point margin with at least 32 points on the scoreboard.

After nearly a quarter of scoreless football, Watson got the Pirates on the board with a 50-yard punt return to paydirt with 1:08 remaining in the first period.

Ortman then hit Watson for a 29-yard scoring strike with 6:52 left until halftime for a 12-0 Ventura advantage.

Angell quickly followed with a Pick-6, returning her interception 23 yards to the end zone with 6:00 on the clock. Ortman hit Smitty Smith for the 2-point PAT and the 20-0 lead.

Following an Oxnard touchdown, Ortman connected with Watson from 21-yards out for another touchdown. Smith hit Sami Nava on the extra point play with 1:04 left to play in the second quarter.

The Pirates were not done yet, however, as they rallied for another score before the end of the half. A short pass from Ortman to Smith turned into a 39-yard gain on Smith's fancy footwork led to Nava's 1-yard touchdown run to close the stanza. Ventura led 33-6 at intermission.

VC added a touchdown in each of the final two periods with each score set up by a Watson Oskie.

In the third period, Watson's pick led to a 5-yard touchdown pass from Ortman to Tanaya Moreno. Ortman hit Moreno again on the PAT to extend the lead to 40-6 with 7:42 remaining in the quarter.

In the final period, Watson grabbed another interception that led to an 18-yard scoring pass from Ortman to Sophia Moran to set the final 46-6 margin.

The Pirates will next host East Los Angeles on Friday Apr. 24 at the VC Sportsplex.
