Pirate Men Open WSC Play With Close 6th Place Finish

The Pirates' men's golf team opened Western State Conference play on Monday, hosting the other seven league teams at River Ridge's Victoria Lakes Golf Course in Oxnard. VC carded a team score of 394 to place a close sixth of the eight-team field, just four strokes from fourth. AJ Ryland and Logan Cook led Ventura, each with a 4-over 76 while Daniel Darwin carded a 78.

Ryland and Cook tied for 12th in the 48-player field to lead the Pirates. Other VC scores after Darwin included Ian Chapital with an 81, Hunter McCoy carding an 83 and Logan Gonzalez posting an 88.

Canyons won the team event with a total of 366, including the first two individual finishers at 4-under 68 and 3-under 69, respectively. Citrus was second with five players in the Top-12 at 375 and Bakersfield third at 384. Santa Barbara, Glendale and VC were fourth, fifth and sixth within four shots of each other.

The Pirates' next scheduled event is the WSC No. 2 hosted by Santa Barbara at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang on Monday Feb. 19.
