The Pirates, who were third after the first round Sunday, posted a total score of 788 (391, 397) to finish fifth, three shots behind Santa Barbara and two shots ahead of Desert. Logan Gonzalez carded a 77-78, 155 to tie for 17th place overall to lead VC in the 2025 season finale.
The Pirates were third after the first day of competition, shooting a team score of 391 on the scenic but difficult layout. Gonzalez was low for Ventura with a 5-over 77 followed by Daniel Darwin and Ian Chapital close behind with 6-over 78's. VC followed Canyons (376) and Reedley (384) after 18 holes and were tied with San Joaquin Delta.
The difficult conditions, including a brisk wind off of Monterey Bay, kept the scores high as only two sub-par rounds were posted for the championships by the 68 total golfers, both on Sunday.
Scoring was even more of a challenge Monday with VC dropping six shots off their pace from Day 1. Gonzalez was a consistent leader for VC with 78 and Matthew Fisher joined him with a 6-over round. Nick Bublitz and Brandon Flores each turned in an 8-over 80 on Monday.
For the tournament, Gonzalez led VC, followed by Fisher (79-78, 157), Bublitz (79-80, 159) and Chapital (78-81, 159). Other scores included Flores (80-80, 160) and Darwin (78-85, 163).
This is the 12th time that the Pirates have competed in the state championships as a team since 1969 and their best finish since taking third place in 2017.
