VC Golf Posts Best Score of Season at Alisal Ranch

The Ventura College golf team posted its best score of the year Monday, carding a 296 to finish third in the Western State Conference event hosted by Santa Barbara. Matthew Jones shot an outstanding 3-under 69 to finish second individually and Nathan Schultz recorded the first hole-in-one in at least 25 years for the Pirates, finishing with a 1-over 73 placing 12th.

Schultz hit a nine iron on the 160-yard, par-3 14th hole to record his ace. It is the first hole in one in competition for the Pirates in at least 25 years.

Jones was the top finisher for VC followed by Schultz. Freddie Carcamo turned in a 4-over 76 and Donovan Chappell shot a 6-over 78. Stephen Ong and Bradley Humphrey carded scores of 79 and 83, respectively.

Canyons won the event with a team score of 283 and Santa Barbara was second, three shots back. VC was 10 strokes behind the Vaqueros and seven shots ahead of fourth-place Citrus.

The Pirates will host the next event on Monday Mar. 23 at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. Tee times begin at 10:00 am.
