Freddie Carcamo and Donovan Chappell each totaled a 4-over 148 in the 36-hole event to tie for eighth place individually. The Pirates posted a team score of 612 in their second straight state tournament appearance.

The Pirate golf team competed at the Western State Conference event at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in LaVerne Monday, hosted by Citrus College. Led by a pair of 3-over 74's from Freddie Carcamo and Matthew Jones, Ventura finished fifth in the field of eight teams in the tightly-bunched contest.

Men's Golf Places Second at Home Event

The VC men's golf team placed second Monday at the Western State Conference event hosted at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard, the Pirates' home course. Freddie Carcamo had an excellent day shooting an even-par 72 to tie for second individually. Matthew Jones shot a one-over 73 and Donovan Chappell was three over par. With the second-place finish, Ventura moves into a tie for second in the overall conference standings.

VC freshman Matthew Jones shot a 3-under 69 Monday to place second at the WSC event at Alisal Ranch Golf Club in Solvang. The Pirates turned in a season-best team score of 296 to place third.

The Ventura College golf team posted its best socre of the year Monday, carding a 296 to finish third in the Western State Conference event hosted by Santa Barbara. Matthew Jones shot an outstanding 3-uner 69 to finish second individually and Nathan Shultz recorded the first hole-in-one in at least 25 years for the Pirates, finishing with a 1-over 73 placing 12th.

With new rules governing 3C2A golf in 2026, event standings have tightened up. In the first Western State Conference meet of the season, the Pirates' golf team finished fifth of eight teams, grouped in a bunch of five teams all within two strokes of each other. Bradley Humphrey led Ventura with a 3-over 75 at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale as VC posted a team score of 316.

The VC golf team placed seventh of 16 teams at the season-opening Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc Sunday and Monday.
Pirate Golf Finishes Seventh at Pt. Conception Open

The VC golf team opened the 2026 season with a seventh -place finish at the Pt. Conception Open held at the par-72 La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. The Pirates posted team scores of 316 and 326 Sunday and monday, respectively, to total 642 strokes, two shots behind a fifth-place tie with Citrus and San Joaquin Delta. Donovan Chappel led Ventura individually, recording 6-over 78's on both days ofthe tournament for a total of 156 to tie for ninth place overall.
