Pirate tennis sensation Hironori Koyanagi advanced to the national championship match, and the doubles team of Koyanagi and Corey Karen placed third over the weekend at the 2015 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships in Sumpter, SC. Koyanagi ultimately was defeated in his final match, but it did not dim the accomplishments of both players on the national stage.

Now a sophomore, the Fukuoka, Japan native claimed the singles title of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Fall Southern California Regional Championships in Cerritos over the weekend. Vitor, who was the 2014 Western State Conference MVP, used his redshirt year to complete his AA degree at Ventura College this year, and will still have two years to play two for the Shockers.
