Men's Tennis Dominates All-WSC Awards

The Ventura College men's tennis team dominated the All-Western State Conference awards announced last month. VC No. 1 player Augustin Lestelle was named the conference Player of the Year in voting by the conference coaches for his play during the regular season, and Pirate head coach nelson Emery was named WSC Coach of the Year.

Men's Tennis Season Ends At The Ojai

The 2017 Ventura College men's tennis season came to an end Friday when the doubles team of Bill Whitaker and Cruz Thayne fell in the Round of 16 at the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament. Whitaker also bowed out of the tournament in the Sweet 16 of singles competition earlier in the day. Meanwhile the doubles pair of Augustin Lestelle and Damon Mitchell fell Friday in the Round of 32. Lestelle fell in singles play in the Round of 32, as well.

Pirate Men Solid on Day 1 of CCCAA Championships

The Pirates' men's tennis team had a solid first day of the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament Thursday. Playing at courts throughout the city of Oxnard, VC had two singles players and two doubles teams move on to the Round of 32 Friday. Bill Whitaker and Augustin Lestelle advanced in singles, while Damon Mitchell joined Lestelle and Cruz Thayne teamed up with Whitaker to move forward in doubles.

Whittaker and Thanyne Claim WSC Doubles Championship

Bill Whitaker and Cruz Thayne upheld their No. 1 seed in the Western State Conference men's doubles draw, coming from behind to defeat the No. 2 duo from Glendale 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 Friday at the VC Tennis Center. The win was the fifth consecutive conference title for a Pirate doubles team. Additionally, Whitaker advanced to the men's singles final before falling to the tournament's top seed.

Rodrigo Perdigao won in No. 4 singles Tuesday to put Ventura ahead in their playoff match with Saddleback 4-3 before the Pirates eventually fell 5-4 at the VC Tennis Center.
Men's Tennis Upset In First Round of Dual Playoffs

The Pirates' men's tennis team season came to an unexpected end Tuesday as No. 4-seed Ventura lost to No. 5 Saddleback 5-4 in the first round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs at the VC Tennis Center. After falling behind 2-1 after doubles play, the Pirates rallied to take a 4-3 advantage before dropping the final two matches of the day to see their dual season come to an end.

No. 4-Seed Men's Tennis Hosts Saddleback in Playofffs

The 3-Peat Western State Conference champion Pirates' men's tennis team received the No. 4 seed in the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs and will host Saddleback in the first round on Tuesday April 11. The match will begin with doubles play at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center. This will be the second meeting of the season between Ventura (16-4) and Saddleback (13-7), with the Pirates taking the first contest 6-3 in a tight decision.

Whitaker Moves Forward in Singles and Doubles for VC

Pirate freshman Bill Whitaker had a strong day Saturday at the Western State Conference Championships at the VC Tennis Center. He won two matches in singles play in the morning, advancing to the conference semifinals before teaming up with Curz Thayne to win two more matches in doubles, moving to the WSC finals. He qualified for the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai in both events, as did several of his VC teammates in play on Saturday.

Sam Gazzera won a pair of singles matches Friday at the WSC Championships, and is one of five Pirates remaining in the draw as it has reached the round of 16. VC also had three doubles teams in the quarterfinals.
Pirates Advance at WSC Championships

Five members of the Pirates' men's tennis team advanced to the round of 16 at the Western State Conference Championships Friday at the VC Tennis Center. Sam Gazzera won a pair of matches while Augustin Lestelle, Bill Whitaker, Cruz Thayne and Rodrigo Perdigao all followed up first round byes with victories in the round of 32. Meanwhile, three VC doubles teams qualified for the CCCAA State Championships later this month at the Ojai Tournament.

Ventura College freshman Rodrigo Perdigao was a double winner for VC Saturday, in No. 3 doubles with Hamilton Walker and in No. 4 singles, as the Pirates defeated DeAnza 6-3 at the VC Tennis Center.
VC Men Defeat De Anza to Close Regular Season

The Ventura College men's tennis team closed the regular season Saturday at the VC Tennis Center with a 6-3 victory over De Anza College. Rodrigo Perdigao was the Pirates' only double winner on the day, partnering with Hamilton Walker to win the No. 3 doubles match, and also prevailing in his No. 4 singles contest. Florent Auteuil posted the most decisive victory of the day with a love and love triumph in No. 6 singles for VC (16-4, 10-0).

Ventura College sophomore Florent Auteuil won in No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1 Friday against visiting San Diego Mesa, helping the Pirates to an 8-1 victory over the Olympians.
Pirates Easily Defeat San Diego Mesa, 8-1

The Ventura College men's tennis team is hitting the home stretch in sprint, defeating visiting San Diego Mesa 8-1 Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Cruz Thayne led the 3-Peat Western State Conference champions with a one and love victory at No. 3 singles and Damon Mitchell was victorious two and love in the No. 5 singles position.

VC freshman Augustin Lestelle blanked his opponent love and love in No. 2 singles, then teamed up with Rodrigo Perdigao to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-1 as VC defeated Bakersfield to complete an undefeated WSC campaign Tuesday.
Pirates Sweep BC to Complete Undefeated WSC Campaign

The Ventura College men's tennis team punctuated its 2017 Western State Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield on Tuesday, completing an undefeated conference campaign. THe victory was the Pirates' 10th this season in WSC play without a setback, and their 27th straight conference triumph dating back to March 6, 2014. Augustin Lestelle and rodrigo Perdigao led the way with victories at BNos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively and together at No. 2 doubles.

Damon Mitchell won two singles matches, dropping two games total, and won in doubles with Augustin Lestelle 8-2 as VC swept a pair of contests from visiting Los Angeles Pierce Thursday, clinching their third consecutive Western State Conference crown.
Men's Tennis Sweeps Two to Clinch 3-Peat WSC Title

The VC men's tennis team swept Los Angeles Pierce twice Thursday to clinch their thirs straight Western State Conference crown. The Pirates defeated the Brahmas 5-0 in the first match of the day, a make-up from Tuesday's rained-out contest, before defeating LAPC 9-0 in the second, a make-up from February 21. Hamilton Walker and Anthony Bovino each won matches love and love during the double-header.

Cruz Thayne posted two points on the day, winning in No. 2 singles and with Bill Whitaker in No. 1 doubles against Foothill Saturday on the final day of the North/South Challenge in Fresno.
Ventura Tennis Splits Final Day of North/South Challenge

The Ventura College men's tennis team completed the North/South Challenge in Fresno Saturday with a split of a pair of matches. VC (11-4, 7-0) lost to NorCal power Foothill 5-2 before shutting out host Fresno City 8-0 in the second match of the day. Bill Whitaker won two doubles matches, first with Cruz Thayne, and then with Damon Mitchell. Thayne also won his only singles contest of the day.

Rodrigo Perdigao teamed up with Manu Rowe to win in No. 3 doubles, but VC was beaten by undefeated American River College Friday at the North/South Challenge in Fresno.
Pirate Tennis Falls in Difficult Match At North/South Challenge

The Pirates' men's tennis team began the North/South Challenge in Fresno with a difficult 5-2 loss to American River College Friday afternoon. Manu Rowe and Rodrigo Perdigao won in No. 3 doubles and Cruz Thayne earned a point in No. 4 singles for VC's scoring on the day.

Sam Gazzera did not lose a game on Thursday, winning in No. 6 singles love and love, then pairing with Florent Auteuil to sweep No. 3 doubles, 8-0 in Ventura's 9-0 win over Victor Valley.
Pirates Move Magic Number to 1 for WSC Crown

The Pirates' men's tennis team blanked visiting Victor Valley 9-0 on Thursday, moving their magic number to one to clinch their third straight Western State Conference championship. Florent Auteuil and Sam Gazarra both did not lose a game on the day, winning love and love in Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively, and winning 8-0 together in No. 3 doubles.

Bill Whitaker was a double winner Tuesday, prevailing in No. 1 singles, then winning No. 1 doubles with partner Cruz Thayne as Ventura defeated Riverside 7-2.
Ventura Takes Non-Conference Match Over Riverside

The Ventura College men's tennis team notched another victory Tuesday with a 7-2 non-conference win over visiting Riverside at the VC Tennis Center. Bill Whittaker was a winner in singles and doubles, as was Cruz Thayne and Rodrigo Perdigao. Florent Auteuil also was a winner in singles for the Pirates (9-2, 7-0).
