The VC men's water polo team placed four players on the All-Western State Conference first-team as selected by conference coaches in November. Transfer sophomore Andre Galvez leads the list of Pirate honorees, along with sophomore Zane Herman and freshmen Jaeger Gonzales and Christian Scanlan. Ventura finished as runner-up in the WSC in 2021, its best finish since 2013.
A resurgent season came to a close Saturday for the Ventura College men's water polo team in the championship game of the Western State Conference Tournament, falling to Cuesta 18-11. As he has all season, transfer sophomore Andre Galvez led the Pirates with six goals, two assists and five drawn ejections. Zane Herman netted a pair of scores with three helpers and two drawn ejections.
The Pirates' men's water polo team turned things around with a convincing 18-6 win over Ohlone and an 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Las Positas Saturday in San Luis Obispo at the Cuesta Tournament. Andre Galvez once again led the Prates offensively with 11 goals on the day while Anthony Ibarra netted seven goals and Zane Herman scored three with seven assists. Jaeger Gonzales recorded 21 saves.
The VC men's water polo team got out to a quick start Wednesday at Santa Monica and held off the Corsairs throughout the second half of the Pirates' 14-12 victory over the hosts. Andre Galvez netted six goals with a pair of drawn ejections and Jaeger Gonzales turned back 11 shots in the cage to lead the Pirates. Zane herman added three goals with five assists and Anthony Ibarra also scored three times with three drawn ejections on the day.
In a tight game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, the Pirates' men's water polo team outlasted Citrus 15-14 in double-overtime at the Ventura Aquatic Center Wednesday afternoon. Alexis Nava scored the game winner with an assist by Zane Herman with 2:42 remaining in the second extra period. Andre Galvez scored four goals with an assist and three drawn ejections and Jaeger Gonzales was key in goal, turning back 17 shots by the Owls.
The Pirates' men's water polo team completed a successful weekend in Mission Viejo, winning a pair of games Saturday at the Saddleback Tournament to post a 4-2 record for the two-day trip. Ventura (8-7) defeated Southwestern and Modesto before falling to Grossmont in the tournament finale. Andre Galvan continued his stellar campaign with 18 goals, nine assists and five steals to lead the way and Jaeger Gonzales recorde 24 saves in the cage with six assists.
The VC men's water polo team had a difficult day at the Central Coast Invitational Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The Pirates dropped their opener to Golden West 13-6 before falling to host Cuesta 12-5 in the nightcap. Andre Galvez scored four goals with three assists in the two games while Alexis Nava and Anthony Ibarra each recorded a pair of scores. Zane Herman had six assists on the day for Ventura (4-5).
The Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Rio Hondo 15-9 in their first game at the Mt. San Antonio Tournament on Friday before falling to Orange Coast 14-8. Andre Galvez once again led the offensive effort with eight goals, two assists and seven drawn ejections while totaling four steals. Mariano Galvez had 26 saves in the cage. Benjamin Sweet and Zane Herman each scored four times in the two games for the Pirates (4-3).
