Donnelly Breaks School Record at WSC Day 2
Ventura's Allison Donnelly set a new school record in the 400-yard individual medley to highlight day two of the Western State Conference Championships at LA Valley. Her third place finish in the event was the best individual performance for the Pirate women while Carlos Gonzalez once again led the VC men touching in seventh place in the same event. Ventura's women remained third in the standings and the men were seventh after the second of three days of competition.

Donnelly swam the 400-IM in 4:51.06 in the qualifying round on Friday morning, breaking the record of 4:55.01 set by Delani Clark in 2016. In the afternoon's finals, she broke her own standard by 0.64 seconds with a 4:50.42 to win the bronze medal.
The VC women had three scorers in the 100-yard butterfly with Shelby Jackson in fourth, Samantha Moran in 10th and Isabel Iglesias finishing 12th. Ahna Davis touched in sixth place in the 100-yard backstroke and Caitlyn Hilgenberg came in 10th. Stephany Dijar and Emily Baughn were sixth and 16th in the 100-yard breast stroke, respectively and Cassidy Yanca finished eighth and Gabrielle MacNeill was 16th in the 200-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Donnelly, Davis, Yanca and Jackson claimed bronze Friday afternoon and the sam quartet also finished third in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Gonzales had the best individual performance of the day for the Pirate men finishing seventh in the 400-yard IM. George Bonilla was 14th in the same race for Ventura. Bonilla was also 10th in the 100-yard butterfly with Jonathan Fleming coming in 15th.
Michael Andrews touched 11th in the 100-yard backstroke and Rafael Rodriguez finished 16th in the 200-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Gonzalez, Sebastian Ayala, Bonilla and Rafael Rodriguez was seventh and the quartet of Hunter Johnson, Gonzalez, Ramon Rodriguez and Raf. Rodriguez was also seventh.
The Pirates return to Valley Glen on Saturday April 22 for the final day of the conference championships beginning at 10:00 am.
