Pirate swim teams 8th, 10th at Mt. SAC Invitational
The VC women's and men's swimming and diving teams placed eighth and 10th, respectively, in competition Friday and Saturday at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational in Wallnut. Olivia Badaracco and Faith Marshall led the women's team with gold medal performances while Jaiden Monroe again earned gold for the Pirate men in the 20-team, two-day meet.
The VC women's and men's swimming and diving teams placed eighth and 10th, respectively, in competition Friday and Saturday at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational in Walnut. Olivia Badaracco and Faith Marshall led the women's team with gold medal performances while Jaiden Monroe again earned gold for the Pirate men in the 20-team, two-day meet.
The Ventura women totaled 229 points over the two days to place eights of 20 teams while the men earned 162 points to place in the middle of the field at 10th.
Badaracco swam a 100.87 in the 100-yard backstroke to claim first and she touched in 2:13.70 in the 200-yard back, also winning the event. She was third in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 50-yard free.
Marshall, meanwhile, swam the 100-yard breast stroke in 1:07.24 to claim the top prize. She also finished fourth in the 200-yard breast stroke and 10th in the 50-yard free.
Ami Cruz placed fifth in the 1650-yard free and Stevie Sturges was 16th in the 200-yard breast stroke. Alexandria Williams finished seventh in the 3m diving and ninth in the 1m diving while Kayla Foster was 14th in the 1m diving event.
Ventura's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Marshall, Abigail Humphrey, Cruz and Badaracco came in seventh. The relay quartet of Badaracco, Marshall, Avery Monson and Cruz touched in eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, ninth in the 200-yard medley relay and 11th in the 400-yard freestyle. Finally, Badaracco, Marshall, Foster and Cruz swam 13th in the 400-yard medley relay.
Monroe led the VC men placing in four individual events. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 51.10 and was runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke. Monroe also claimed bronze in the 100-yard individual medley and was sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Thomas Shea placed fifth in the 1m diving event and Shane Speth was 13th in the 400-yard individual medley. Meanwhile, Matt Williams was 16th in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Jacob Otsuki, Brayden Black, Parker Steen and Monroe finished sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay and the quartet of Monroe, Michael Ramirez, Steen and Otsuki came in 11th in the 400-yard medley relay. Otsuki, Speth, Steen and Monroe were also 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the same team was 14th in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Pirates will next compete at the Western State Conference No. 2 meet at Los Angeles Valley on Friday March 14.
