The VC men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Western State Conference Preliminaries Friday, with a number of athletes moving on to next week's WSC Championships. Additionally, Cole Everett won the conference high jump finals to advance to the Southern California Regionals. The VC men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Viking Invitational hosted by Long Beach City College Friday. Kevin Ramirez won the 500m run to lead the men while the 4x100m relay team also claimed gold with the 10th fastest time in program history. Brianna Torres won first again in the 500m for the VC women and Elizabeth Mejia and Ashley Crist each won silver medals in the 400m hurdles and long jomp events, respectively.
The VC men's track and field team used sweeps in the 100m and 200m to claim first place of the five competing teams at the Western State Conference North meet Friday at Cuesta. The Pirate women came in second in the event. Trevor McCarthy won the 200m and the javelin to lead Ventura while Jason Cutting, Shaun Tolson, and Max Daniel also claimed individual gold. Brianna Torres claimed a pair of golds for the VC women and Marygrace Wilson and Elizabeth Mejia also won events.
Ventura College track and field hosted the first-ever Pirate Invitational Saturday at the VC Sportsplex, providing a great opportunity for the Pirate athletes to open their season at home. The meet was a non-scored event, allowing valuable early-season competition experience. Marygrace Wilson took full advantage of the opportunity with golds in the 100m and 200m while Brianna Torres won the 5000m. Both the women's and men's 4x100m relay team also broke the tape first.
