VC's Brianna Richards qualified for the 3C2A State Championships Saturday in the regional finals of the 1500m run at Bakersfield. Meanwhile, the Pirate men's 4x100m relay team of Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Ja'Varien Salter and Jeremiah Penny just missed an automatic qualification for the final meet of the year, settling for an alternate position.

The men's 4x100m elay team of Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Salter and Jeremiah Penny also qualified for the regional finals in competition Saturday.
The Ventura College men's and women's track and field teams qualified several individuals for the Western State Conference Championships Friday at the WSC Prelims held at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Ja'Varien Salter qualified with the fastest time in the 200m and was second in the 100m qualifying while Brianna Richards was second in the 800m and also moved forward in the 1500m. Mateo Chavez and Alyna Renteria qualified for the Southern California Prelims in finals events in the shot put and discus, respectively.
The VC men's and women's track and field teams battled crazy Santa Ana winds and stiff competition Friday at the Moorpark Open. Jeremiah Penny led a strong showing in the 100m for the Pirates and the men's 4x100m relay of Makaio Thompson, Max Daniel, Ja'Varien Salter and Penny posted the fastest time for VC since 1993. Brianna Richards led the Ventura women with a strong race in the 800m.
The Pirate men's and women's track and field teams both finished second in a five-team field Friday at the Western State Conference North meet at the VC Sportsplex. The Ventura men dominated the short sprints, filling the medal stand in the 100m and also claiming first in the 4x110m and 4x400m relay golds. Marcelo Mendoza also won first in the 3000m run while Mateo Chavez claimed gold in the shot put. Brianna Richards and Alyna Renteria led the effort for the women with wins in the 1500m and javelin events, respectively.
On the strength of a gold-medal performance in the 4x100m relay, and on three individual golds on the day, the Ventura College men's track and field team placed third of 12 teams in the Orange Coast Classic in Costa Mesa Friday. Ja'Varien Salter's won in the 100m and claimed a dead-heat silver in the 200m, Henry Fulk claimed the gold in the 5000m and Mateo Chavez finished first in the shot put to pace the Pirates. Jessica Davison won bronze in the 100m hurdles to lead the VC women.
