The Ventura College women's basketball team continues to be the most-recognized academic achieving community college women's basketball program in the country, earning its 15th appearance on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll for the 2018-19 academic year. The Pirates earned a combined 3.155 team GPA for the year, placing it 12th on the national list released on Tuesday by the WBCA.
The Pirates' season came to a heartbreaking conclusion Friday with a 59-57 loss to Diablo Valley College in the CCCAA State Quarterfinals at the VC Athletic Event Center. The Pirates, seeded No. 4 from Southern California, went toe-to-toe with Northern California's top-seed in a game that featured 12 lead changes and five ties, and the margin stayed primarily within five points. Ventura College redshirt freshman Cece Quintino has been named an Honorable Mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The 5-foot-8 guard from Liberty High School in Las Vegas leads the Prates in scoring at 16.8 points per game and assists with 3.7 dimes per contest. She is also second in rebounding with 5.6 boards per game. Cece becomes the 12th player in program history to earn All-American recognition.

Pirate guards Cece Quintino and Talia Taufaasau have been named to the All-State team by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association in meetings held last week. Quintino, a redshirt freshman from Liberty High School in Las Vegas was named second-team All-State while Taufaasau, a freshman from Canyon High School in Santa Clarita was named third-team. This is the 14th time in program history that the Pirates have had two or more players named to the all-state team.

Each year, every member of the sophomore class of the Ventura College women's basketball team selects a "Favorite Teacher" based on their own personal criteria. 2018-19 is the 14th year in which the team has honored their favorite teachers, and 76 awards have been presented, including this year. On Saturday January 19, VCCCD Board member Josh Chancer, VC Interim President Dr. Damon Bell and VC Vice President Dr. Kim Hoffmans helped the team honor the latest class of Favorite Teachers.
