Women's Tennis Splits Matches Thursday and Friday

The VC women's tennis team split a pair of matches Thursday and Friday, falling at Los Angeles Mission on the first day before rebounding to defeat Fullerton in the home opener. Adrianna Padilla took her No. 6 singles match to a tiebreaker against Mission before winning her No. 4 singles match Friday against the Hornets. Kira Branson got her first win of the season in No. 1 singles against Fullerton.

The Pirates ran into a difficult opponent Thursday in the Western State Conference match in Sylmar. Padilla played the closest contest of the day in No. 6 singles, falling in a tiebreaker, 63, 4-6, 10-4.

The winds turned in favor of the Pirates on Friday in their home opener against Fullerton, sweeping the Hornets 9-0.

In doubles play, VC won the No. 3 slot by default before Dulce Contreras and Isabella DeRosa shut out their opponent in the no. 2 match, 8-0. Branson and Chandra Padua finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-2 in the top match. 

Ventura again earned a default point in singles in the No. 6 match. DeRosa clinched the VC win with her 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and Padilla posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph in the No. 4 contest. Branson finished off her opponent in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3 and Padua won in No. 2 singles by the same score. Sherry Bonilla finished off the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win in No. 5 singles.

VC next heads to Bakersfield for a WSC match on Tuesday Feb. 10.
