Pirates Drop Another Tight Contest
For the second time in three days the Pirates' women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested 5-4 decision in Western State Conference play Thursday, losing to Canyons at the VC Tennis Center. Dulce Contreras was a double winner for the Pirates in No. 2 doubles with Isabella DeRosa and in No. 3 singles, while Isabella Avila and Adrianna Padilla also eacned singles points for Ventura.

Dulce Contreras was a double winner for the Pirates in No. 2 doubles with Isabella DeRosa and in No. 3 singles, while Isabella Avila and Adrianna Padilla also earned singles points for Ventura.
VC trailed the Cougars 2-1 following doubles play. Contreras and DeRosa posted VC's lone point with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 slot.
Avila evened the match with a love and love triumph in No. 5 singles before COC took a 4-2 advantage with wins in the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches. Padilla kept Ventura in the match with a 7-5, 6-4 win on Court 6 before the Cougars clinched the victory with a 3-set win over DeRosa in No. 4 singles. Contreras then made it 5-4 with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles.
Ventura next travels to Mt. San Antonio on Friday Feb. 27 for a 1:00pm match with the Mounties.
