Pirate Men and Women Each First at WSC #1 Meet
Ventura College's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished first Friday at the Western State Conference No. 1 meet at Los Anglees Valley. Jaiden Monroe led the VC men with three individual golds and Olivia Badaracco finished first twice to lead the women. The Pirate men totaled 234 points to run away from second place Valley with 131 while the women earned 152 points, edging out the Monarchs with 148.

Monroe won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.30 and also struck gold with a mark of 55.82 in the 100-yard backstroke. His final individual first place finish came in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:03.8.
Nick Santander earned gold medals in the 50-yard freestyle (22.92) and 100-yard butterfly (58.31) while Thomas Shea won the 3m (150.80) and 1m (150.25) diving events.Michael Soho won the Pirates' other individual gold in the 100yard breast stroke (1:05.14).
Ventura's 200-yard medley relay team of Luigi Travi, Michael Ramirez, Santander and Soho also finished first in 1:46.25 while the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet featuring Santander, Travi, Shea and Monroe also struck gold in 1:30.82.
Soho came in second in the 200-yard individual medley and Kyle Quach won silver in the 100-yard backstroke. Meanwhile, Ramirez was second in the 200-yard backstroke and Brayden Black was second in the 1m diving event. Shea (50-yard freestyle), Black (200-yard freestyle), Ramon Rodriguez (1m diving), and Travi (100-yard butterfly) all came in third in their respective events.
Badaracco won the 200-yard backstroke , touching in 2:16.83 and was first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.66. Ava Carey earned the Pirates other individual gold, touching first in the 1650-yard freestyle in 21:43.12.
Ventura's 200-yard medley relay team of Badaracco, Stevie Sturges, Carey and Sarah Glassman won in 2:03.17 while Badaracco, Carey, Carissa Clay and Glassman won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:50.01.
Sturges earned a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard and 100-yard breast stroke events while Carey won silver in the 200-yard individual medley. Glassman was second in the 100-yard freestyle.
Ami Cruz won a bronze in the 200-yard freestyle while Clay was third in the 50-yard freestyle. Glassman came in third in the 100-yard butterfly.
Ventura next competes in the Mt. San Antonio Invitational on Friday and Saturday Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
