VC Women Fall in Playoff Opener

The Ventura College women's tennis team battled but came up short Tuesday, dropping their 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoff match at Orange Coast, 5-1. Sherry Bonilla and Ella Morgan recorded the lone point for VC (8-9) with a win in No. 3 doubles. Dulce Contreras and Morgan were also ahead a set in Nos. 3 and 6 singles when OCC clinched the victory.

VC struck first when Bonilla and Morgan won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-4. Kira Branson and Chandra Padua dropped their contest on Court 1, 8-4 before Contreras and Isabella DeRosa narrowly fell 8-6 in the No. 2 slot. OCC carried a 2-1 lead into singles.

The Orange Coast Pirates wasted little time in singles, capturing the Nos. 1, 2 and 4 matches in singles play, respectively, to clinch the 5-1 victory. Ventura's Contreras led 6-3, 2-1 in No. 3 singles when the contest was decided and Morgan was up a set on Court 6, 6-3.

Ventura closes their season with their second straight post-season appearance, their third in the past four seasons. Branson will head the the 3C2A State Championships in singles Apr. 23-26 at The Ojai Tournament while Branson and Padua, Contreras and DeRosa, and Bonilla and Morgan will all compete at The Ojai in doubles.
