The VC men's tennis team had a solid showing in the opening rounds of the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships hosted by The Ojai Tournament. Antonio Rosales, Charles De La Laurencie and Kyle Spiegelman all moved into the round of 32 in singles while the doubles pair of Rosales and Spiegelman also moved into the top-32.
Ventura's Antonio Rosales and Kyle Spiegelman claimed the Western State Conference men's doubles championship Friday in play at the VC Tennis Center. The pair moved into the final by a default victory in the semifinals, then defeated a pair from Glendale 6-3, 3-0, ret. to claim the crown. Rosales and Spiegelman become the seventh VC pair to win the conference title in the last eight years.
The VC men's tennis team had its dual season come to an end Tuesday in the opening round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs with a 5-0 loss at No. 2-seed Irvine Valley College. After being swept in doubles play, The No. 7-seeded Pirates dropped Nos. 3 and 6 in singles to concede the match.
VC's Antonio Rosales led a host of Pirates whose play in the Western State Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday has qualified them for the CCCAA State Championships held at the Ojai Tournament later this month. Rosales had a win on Friday and two more on Saturday to advance to the WSC singles championship to be played Friday April 12 at the VC Tennis Center. In doubles, Rosales and partner Kyle Spiegelman, and the duo of Thiago Batista and Alexandre Campolina moved to the WSC semifinals, also to be played April 12.
The Pirates'men's tennis team completed Western State Conference play by completing a season-sweep of Bakersfield College on the road Thursday afternoon. VC blanked the Renegades 9-0 for the second time this season, led by Antonio Rosales, Kyle Spiegelman and Thiago Batista, all of whom posted love and love vistories in singles play. Rosales and Spiegelman also won their doubles match 8-0 for Ventura (11-4, 5-2).
The Ventura College men's tennis team swept visiting Bakersfield 9-0 Thursday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. The bottom half of the line-up shut out the Renegades as Alexandre Campolina, Thiago Batista and James Moulton swept the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches, respectively, with identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Batista and doubles partner Charles De La Laurencie also shut out their opponents in No. 2 doubles, 8-0.
