Men's Tennis Recognized as ITA All-Academic Team

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is proud to announce the 2020 Junior College Men ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams. With a team grade point average of 3.26, the Ventura College men's tennis team is one of 16 programs recognized from across the country on the distinguished list. Meanwhile, Dean's List honorees Antonio Rosales, Cody Castro and Yuya Koide were among the 68 individuals recognized by the organization as ITA Scholar Athletes.

Men's Tennis Adds Three to List of Transfers

The Pirates' men's tennis team has added three more players from the 2020 team to its list of students athletes who will transfer to four-year schools to continue their academic and athletic careers. Sophomores Charles De La Laurencie (Florida National University), Alexandre Campolina (Westcliff University, CA) and Thorben Waldburger (Indiana University East) have all signed scholarship offers this spring, joining Antonio Rosales (Biola University), who committed in the fall.

It is a season whose end will forever be unwritten. The Ventura College men's tennis team was the lone undefeated squad remaining in the state in 2020 when the campaign came to an abrupt end on March 12 due to the coronavirus, and their journey will always be unfinished. But despite that, the 2020 Pirates achieved many great things worthy of recognition and review.

Ventura College freshman Yuya Koide had another love, love victory as the Pirates defeated previously unbeaten San Diego City 8-1 Friday afternoon. With a record of 8-0, Ventura is the lone undefeated team in Southern California.
Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten with Non-Conference WIn

The Ventura College men's tennis team remained undefeated Friday with an 8-1 decision over previously unbeaten San Diego City College at the VC Tennis Center. Yuya Koide continued his energetic play with another love, love victory in No. 6 singles and he paired with Charles De La Laurencie to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Antonio Rosales, Cody Castro, Ryan Lam and De La Laurencie were also double winners for the Pirates (8-0, 5-0), who ar the lone remaining team in Southern California without a loss.

VC freshman Ryan Lam maintained his undefeated singles season with a straight-set win at his No. 4 slot Thursday against Glendale. The Pirates clinched the WSC championship with a 9-0 sweep over the Vaqueros.
Men's Tennis Clinches Outright WSC Crown With Sweep

The Ventura College men's tennis team reclaimed the Western State Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep over visiting Glendale on Thursday afternoon. Yuya Koide, who had a golden set earlier this season, lost just five points in his love, love victory in No. 6 singles. Meanwhile Charles De La Laurencie, Ryan Lam and Cody Castro all continued their undefeated seasons in singles play. The title is the 21st overall for the Pirates in program history, their 13th in the past 15 years.

Pirate sophomore Charles De La Laurencie swept his No. 1 singles match, and teamed up with Yuya Koide to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-1, as Ventura swept Bakersfield 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Ventura Tennis Has Another Strong Outing

The VC men's tennis team continued its strong play with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield College on Thursday. Playing in his first collegiate singles match, Yuya Koide had a golden set, then lost just two points in winning his No. 6 singles match, love and love. Meanwhile Cody Castro (No. 5 singles), Alexandre Campolina (No. 4 singles) and Charles De La laurencie (No. 1 singles) all blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The Ventura College men's tennis team made quick work of visiting Saddleback on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the Gauchos 9-0. After dropping just five games in the three doubles matches, VC (3-0, 2-0) lost just eight games in the six singles contests in the dominant performance. Charles De La Laurencie and Leo Noni both won their singles matches love and love to lead the way for the Pirates.

VC sophomore Charles De La Laurencie was the only Pirate with two wins Tuesday, in No 2 singles and No. 2 doubles with Yuya Koide, as VC opened 2020 with a 7-2 win over Santa Barbara.
Men's Tennis Opens 2020 With Victory

The Pirates' men's tennis team opened the 2020 season on Tuesday with a resounding 7-2 victory over Santa Barbara at the VC Tennis Center. Charles De La Laurencie was Ventura's only double winner, capturing No. 2 doubles with Yuya Koide and winning in No. 2 singles as well. The Pirates (1-0, 1-0) dropped two of three doubles matches before coming back to sweep the singles competition.
