News mentions
Under first-year head coach Travis Allain, the Pirates' men's water polo team had a resurgence or sorts, improving nine wins from their 2018 campaign. VC equalled their win total from 2018 on the opening weekend of the year, posting their highest point total in a decade with a 25-7 victory over Las Positas. Things got better from that point as Ventura produced 11 victories in 2019 with a 3-3 mark in Western State Conference play. The Pirates closed the year with a victory over Santa Monica to claim third place in the WSC.
Austin Brunk, Ryan Reardon and Brandyn Robles headline the Pirates' men's water polo team's All-Western State Conference honorees for the 2019 season. The trio were all named first-team all-conference in voting by the WSC coaches earlier this month. Daniel Mcleans and Jake Peters received second-team All-WSC nods while Gabriel Ibarra, Brandon Bence and Julian Larios all earned Honorable Mention honors.
The Ventura College men's water polo team raced to a 7-2 first half lead at Citrus College Wednesday afternoon, posting a 17-8 victory in their Western State Conference opener in Glendora. The Pirates (5-2, 1-0), held the Owls scoreless for the first 9:35 of the game behind goalie Julian Larios, who was making his debut in the cage for VC. Ryan Reardon had seven goals, four assists and five steals while Jake Peters scored twice with an assist and four steals defensively.
Things are looking up for the Ventura College men's water polo team. The Pirates came home with a split of four games at the Joe Martinez Memorial Tournament over the weekend at Ohlone College in Fremont. VC defeated De Anza and Las Positas on Friday and Saturday, respectively, to equal their win total from a year ago on the opening weekend this season. Ryan Reardon netted 16 goals for the Pirates (2-2) and Austin Brunk had nine scores.
