All-WSC Selections for Men's Water Polo Announced

The VC men's water polo team placed four players on the All-Western State Conference first-team as selected by conference coaches in November. Transfer sophomore Andre Galvez leads the list of Pirate honorees, along with sophomore Zane Herman and freshmen Jaeger Gonzales and Christian Scanlan. Ventura finished as runner-up in the WSC in 2021, its best finish since 2013.

VC freshman defender Joseph Lowry scored three goals with an assist and three steals in Saturday's nightcap, a 15-2 victory over Palomar at the Orange Coast Mini. Ventura won two of three games on the day in Costa Mesa.

The Ventura College men's water polo team won two of three games Saturday in Costa Mesa at the Ornage Coast Mini Tournament. VC dropped the opener to the hosts 18-6 before defeating No. 7-ranked Grossmont 8-6 and running away from Palomar 15-2. Andre Galvez and Zane Herman each scored five goals in the three games to lead the offense and Mariano Galvez was key in the cage with 43 saves over the three games.

The Pirates men's water polo team dropped a pair of games Fiday in San Luis Obispo at the Cuesta Tournament. VC fell in the opener to the hosts in a Western State Conference game 14-8 before dropping the nightcap 10-7 to Modesto. Andre Galvez scored six goals with two assists, three steals and six drawn ejections and Zane Herman scored five times with three assists and two steals. Jaeger Gonzales had 27 saves in goal over the two games.

Pirates Outlast Owls in Double-Overtime Win

In a tight game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, the Pirates' men's water polo team outlasted Citrus 15-14 in double-overtime at the Ventura Aquatic Center Wednesday afternoon. Alexis Nava scored the game winner with an assist by Zane Herman with 2:42 remaining in the second extra period. Andre Galvez scored four goals with an assist and three drawn ejections and Jaeger Gonzales was key in goal, turning back 17 shots by the Owls.

The Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Rio Hondo 15-9 in their first game at the Mt. San Antonio Tournament on Friday before falling to Orange Coast 14-8. Andre Galvez once again led the offensive effort with eight goals, two assists and seven drawn ejections while totaling four steals. Mariano Galvez had 26 saves in the cage. Benjamin Sweet and Zane Herman each scored four times in the two games for the Pirates (4-3).

VC sophomore transfer Andre Galvan had 18 goals in the Pirates' three games Friday at the Cesar Chavez Tournament at Southwestern College in Chula Vista in his debut in the orange and black. Ventura defeated Miramar and Palomar before falling to Grossmont on the first day of the two-day event.

On their opening day of the 2021 season, the VC men's water polo claimed a pair of victories at the Cesar Chavez Tournament at Southwestern College in Chula Vista before falling in their third game of the day. The Pirates bested San Diego Miramar 18-11 and Palomar 22-5 before posting a 16-13 setback against Grossmont. Sophomore transfer Andre Galvez had a spectacular debut for Ventura (2-1) with 18 goals, four assists, five steals and six field blocks to lead the way while Zane Herman scored nine goals in the three contests.
