Lumas, Decierdo and Lopez Earn 1st Team All-WSC Awards

The VC women's basketball team was well-represented on the 2025-26 Western State Conference North Division women's basketball all-conference team with Kayla Lumas, Olivia Decierdo and Riannah Lopez all earning first team All-WSC accolades. Charnelle Nichols was also honord with an honorable-mention All-WSC award.

Lumas, Nichols Lead Ventura in Playoff Effort

The VC women's basketball team fought to the end, but ultimately fell 68-50 at Long Beach in the opening round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs Wednesday. The No. 11-seeded Vikings used a decisive third-quarter surge to pull away from No. 22 Ventura. Kayla Lumas led all scorers with 20 points and Charnelle Nichols posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds in the season-ending decision. Olivia Decierdo netted 13 points with three assists.

VC Women's Basketball Returns to the Postseason

The VC women's basketball team is returning to the postseason after finishing 15-13 during the 2025-26 campaign and 8-4 in Western State Conference play. The Pirates are seeded No. 22 and will travel to No. 11 Long Beach on Wednesday Feb. 25 for a first round match up with the Vikings in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Lumas, Pirate Defense Lift Ventura Past Oxnard

The VC women's basketball team used a decisive fourth-quarter surge and a strong night from Kayla Lumas to pull away for a 55–46 road victory at Oxnard Friday. Clinging to a three-point lead after three quarters, the Pirates closed with a 16–10 advantage in the final 10 minutes to secure the win. Lumas netted 23 points on the night to lead the effort in the regular season finale.

Dominant third quarter lift Pirates past Hancock

A dominant third-quarter surge and a balanced scoring effort powered Ventura to a 61-42 victory over Allan Hancock on Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Riannah Lopez scored 21 points with eight rebounds and Olivia Decierdo netted 19 points with six boards, three assists and three steals to lead the effort.

Lopez’s 27 Points Power Ventura Past Cuesta 58-48

Riannah Lopez poured in a game-high 27 points to lead Ventura College to a 58-48 road victory over Cuesta on Saturday as VC broke the game open in the fourth quarter after three tightly contested frames. Trailing 14-12 after the first quarter, the Pirates methodically flipped the game with a 15-point second quarter to take a 27-25 edge into halftime. Ventura maintained its narrow advantage in a defensive-minded third, leading 41-38 heading to the final 10 minutes, before closing with a 17-10 surge in the fourth to pull away for the 10-point win.

Early Surge Not Enough as Ventura Falls to Santa Barbara

The Pirates' women's basketball team rode a dominant first quarter to a double-digit lead but could not hold off a relentless Santa Barbara rally late, falling 57-54 on Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Sienna Angell led all scorers with 16 points and Riannah Lopez netted 15 to lead Ventura in the Western State Conference contest. VC carried a 13-point advantage into halftime before Santa Barbara closed strong, outscoring Ventura 17-8 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

Pirates Fall at Moorpark Despite Decierdo's 20-point Night

The VC women's basketball team kept its game at Moorpark tight for a half before falling to the Raiders 75-55 Wednesday. Olivia Decierdo led the way for Ventura with 20 points and Kalya Lumas netted 15 in the effort. Charnelle Nichols contributed 11 points and a team-high six rebounds with five steals defensively.

Pirate Women Come Back Against Mission for Win

The VC women's basketball team came back from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Los Angeles Mission 59-56 Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Olivia Decierdo again led the Pirates with 22-points, including a 10-14 performance from the free throw line. Riannah Lopez netted 14 points in the game while Sienna Angell and Kayla Lumas each contributed 11 to the victory.

Pirate Defense Smothers Bulldogs in Win

The VC women's basketball team had a stifling defensive effort Saturday afternoon, defeating Allan Hancock 63-30 in Santa Maria. The Bulldogs were limited to a 16 percent shooting effort by the Pirates as VC held them to single digits in each quarter of play. Olivia Decierdo had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, while handing out six assists and grabbing five steals in the contest and Kalya Lumas netted 19 points. Sienna Angell contributed 12 points for Ventura in the triumph.

Women's Basketball Posts Solid Victory

The VC women's basketball team took an early lead against visiting Cuesta, and never looked back in their 65-45 victory over the Cougars Wednesday. Charnelle Nichols led a balanced scorebook with 14 points while Kayla Lumas netted 13 points with six rebounds. Sienna Angell scored 11 points, also with six boards, and Alyssa Ballesteros also contributed 11 points. Olivia Decierdo scored nine points and Ava Elliott grabbed six boards in the triumph for the Pirates.

VC Falls Late to Trade Tech

The Pirates' women's basketball team held a late lead against Los Angeles Trade Tech Saturday, but ultimately fell to the Beavers 66-63 at the Athletic Event Center. Kayla Lumas led the way for Ventura with 23 points and Riannah Lopez talled 22 in the setback. Sienna Angell scored seven points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:39 remaining in the game, six assists and three steals. Olivia Decierdo grabbed a team-high six rebounds in the contest.

Ventura unable to hold off Vaqueros

The VC women's basketball team held a four point lead entering the fourth quarter but were unable to hold off hard-charging Santa Barbara, falling to the Vaqueros 60-57 in the Western State Conference contest. Riannah Lopez scored 21 points and pulled in seven rebounds to lead the Ventura effort and Olivia Decierdo contributed 10 points, four boards and three assists. Kayla Lumas netted nine points with four steals.

The VC women's basketball team dropped a Western State Conference game against Moorpark Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Kayla Lumas led the effort for VC with 19 points and six rebounds, four steals while Olivia Decierdo netted 14 points with six boards. Charnelle Nichols aaded a team-best eight rebounds.

Pirates Shoot Their Way to WSC Win

Behind a perfect shooting night from Charnelle Nichols, the Pirates' women's basketball team shot its way to a 57-52 victory at Los Angeles Mission Wednesday to open Western State Conference play. Nichols was 6-6 from the floor, 1-1 from three, and 3-3 at the free throw line for 16 points to lead the way. Kayla Lumas netted 17 points and Riannah Lopez scored 12 for Ventura. The Pirates were 19-44 from the floor overall, 43 percent, and 7-17 from three, 41 percent while hitting 75 percent of their free throws, 12-16, in the contest.

Ventura Drops Final Contest of 2025

The Ventura College women's basketball team dropped their final contest before the new year, falling 62-45 at state No.13 Glendale Tuesday evening. Kayla Lumas led with 12 points while Charnelle Nichols scored 10. Riannah Lopez netted nine points with six boards in the effort for the Pirates.
